Following the recent Annual Dialogue 2022 conducted by Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) on 6 October 2022, SSM provided the presentation slides and Summary of Issues and Feedback for the public.

Issues that have been addressed include:

The usage of 12-digit registration numbers was made mandatory after its implementation.

Issues on the acceptance of this change by governmental authorities as well as financial institutions

The annual return prepared under section 68 of the Companies Act 2016 does not include the twelve-digit registration number.

Feedback:

SSM is currently in a transition phase and still retains the use of both registration numbers until a policy is developed to mandate the use of registration numbers with 12 digits exclusively.

If any third party questions the legality of the newly implemented 12-digit registration number format, the third party can get a confirmation letter from any SSM counter services located around the country (except UTC Pudu and Putrajaya).

During the transition period, companies can use one or both registration number forms to be presented on posters, invoices, and other documents.

SSM is actively disseminating information regarding the use of both registration number formats that are currently in use. This information is being distributed by contacting the relevant party (if the relevant party's information is available) or using social media (if the relevant party's information is unavailable). This is being done so that the relevant party can make the appropriate preparations for using this 12-digit registration number following the implementation enforcement date notified by SSM later.

Regarding the annual return, the ongoing MBRS system improvements carried out include the use of the 12-digit company registration number that will be enforced later.
